A Bit More Like It!
I went to the club tonight, but no way was I going to do a speed session!
19:12 6 miles 44:54
1 8:03 2 7:27 3 7:13 4 7:17 5 7:19 6 7:36 Average 7:29 min/miles
All the guys I saw before the run were offering their congratulations, which was nice. Donald also said that he’d really enjoyed reading my race report, although it had taken him rather a long time!
As I left the school tonight to begin my run, I was faced with some severe pain/discomfort in my groin (different to that I had been feeling previously). Being the eternal optimist, my mind went down the road of a sports hernia injury and a long lay off. However after about 30 seconds of running things seemed OK.
It was a nice easy first mile or so chatting to club members about, you guessed it, the WHWR, but once I was on my own I picked things up a little. It was raining quite heavily and I was enjoying myself. I ran out on the cycle track to about 3.2 miles, then turned for home. The guys came flying past on their speed session, Donald leading the way. JK looked to be working really hard and I hope he’s not doing too much too soon. Maybe I’m just jealous though! I ran past Chris who offered his congratulations, and Andy gave me a high-five as he passed.
The Headless Chicken (running the shorter session and being generally lazy – again!) joined me as I ran past him. He probably only did about a 4 mile run tonight, but I don’t see him that often and I enjoyed his company as we ran back.
I hit 6 miles someway short of the school, and stopped to walk. A short time later I started a gentle jog and the pain returned in my groin. I’m hoping it will be fine in a couple of days. I’ll try not to run tomorrow but I’ve got the bug well and truly back!
I really liked last years WHWR top – classy black colouring with a touch of red and yellow (just call me Gok Wan!). I was looking forward to having a gloating top to wear about town. So I can’t deny my disappointment in the fluorescent yellow colouring of this years garment. It’s not that I don’t like it, it’s just that it’s not really suitable for anything but running. Or so I thought! I wore the top tonight. It has a large, embroidered, WHWR logo on the right chest. Exactly over the nipple! Maybe the rain made it worse, but now I’m not sure I can run in it without the aid of an Elastoplast! So what now? I’ve narrowed it down to 3 options. 1, I run in it and lose a nipple. 2, I wear it out and about and cause people to need sunglasses even in winter. Or 3, I get a job as a lollipop man. It’s a tough call!
