Once again my legs felt terrible tonight as I arrived at Kilbarchan HQ, and once again it was as a result of being in the car all day. Thanks to Davie (of the ‘runs and coaches’ variety, rather than the one that rings!) for his comments on my last post. It was interesting to read that someone else has suffered from hamstring issues with the probable cause of ‘car seat endurance’ being to blame. Don’t worry though Davie, missing sessions is something that I rarely do. I love running too much!
Tonight, much of the banter was aimed at me. On Saturday I’ll be running my first cross country race for the club, and after my WHW exploits, the guys seemed to feel that I might feel the need to stop, change my socks and shoes, and eat rice pudding after each of the two mile laps. They even decided to provide me with a support runner… to stop me from stopping after each lap!
I was back to my old ways tonight. I led the way for most of the run, trying to push the pace on a bit, then with half a mile to go, a few guys ran past me and I had nothing left in the tank to follow… I’ll never learn, but I would rather feel that I’ve worked hard throughout the run rather than just over the final mile. Additional speed and endurance will return as the weeks go by.
…pacepusher by nature!
